What is Web Globalization?

The Internet makes you look beyond national boundaries. It opens your mind. It's exciting.

- IDC

Web globalization is much more than the translation of Web pages from one language to another. Components of globalization include localization, internationalization, and strategic planning that integrates global marketing objectives with overall company goals. Generally speaking, the processes of "localization" and "internationalization" involve not only translating site copy, but also adapting the underlying message, look and feel of textual and graphical content to preserve its desired effect across languages. Critical elements include awareness of the target audience's culture, tastes and attitudes. Following are definitions of concepts making up Web Globalization:

  • Globalization (G11N) addresses the business issues associated with taking a product or service outside a company home territory it involves-integrating localization throughout the company, after proper internationalization and product design; country-specific marketing, sales, and technical support in the world market. Web Globalization is the application of global business practices to Web operations. In-country offices and overseas partners must be involved, and technology must be complemented with processes that insure quality, reliability and accountability.
